You Help Each Other

Karen Dahlke contacted me to see if I would help her produce a short 5 minute film for a surrogacy film festival in California. What transpired was a whole education for me about what it is like to be a surrogate parent for a family who cannot have children. Karen’s story contains the full range of human emotion from heartache to joy, and her hope is that she can help parents considering surrogacy how to avoid some pitfalls and to set themselves up for success.

My skills as a counselor came in handy for this project, because it was all about getting to the heart of an emotionally complex story.

I recorded the music for this project by setting a timer for 5 minutes and imagining her story as I played the guitar.
